As a child of the 90s and early aughts, Kiran witnessed firsthand how video games evolved from voiceless, pixelated adventures to 100-hour, narrative-driven behemoths with thousands of lines of dialogue. It was, in fact, the enthralling, branching stories of the Nintendo Switch’s Fire Emblem: Three Houses that finally inspired Kiran to turn his long latent interest in voice acting into a full career. His strong familiarity with many genres of games - be it RPG, action/adventure, shooter, or battle royale - allows him to easily tune his performance to the specific needs of the project, all while having a blast behind the mic!

Kiran’s knowledge of video games goes beyond that of a consumer and actor. As a senior audio software engineer at 31st Union (a 2K Games studio), Kiran was the owner of the dialogue system for the studio’s debut shooter game Project ETHOS. It was his responsibility to ensure that the dialogue system allowed all relevant developers to control things like timing, dependencies, sequencing, interruptions and repetition in order to allow the voice acting to shine during gameplay. He also worked closely with audio/dialogue designers and producers to more fully understand the relationship between and demands of both the game development and recording studios. Kiran thus became intimately familiar not only with the voice acting within his studio’s game, but the entire development process that allows such a game to properly utilize said acting.

As a result, Kiran’s approach to acting for games is informed by all stakeholders involved with the project. He knows the importance of giving multiple, varied takes; he understands that a session can involve many lines of dialogue; he embraces potentially needing to be called back to the studio months, if not years after the initial session; and he expects that a character - or the game itself - may be completely overhauled if not scrapped entirely. In short, Kiran knows that voice acting is but one piece of the complicated and constantly moving jigsaw puzzle known as game development. He works efficiently but with passion, bringing to life the character(s) brought to him in the moment so that the developers can continue their work of creating the best game they can!
